Volunteer Opportunities in Olathe and Paola

Volunteer visiting patient

At The University of Kansas Health System locations in Olathe and Paola, we offer a variety of ways for you to volunteer and make a difference in the lives of our patients. To help ensure your work is fulfilling and rewarding, we’ll match your skills and interests to the needs of patients and staff in the health system. We need volunteers who are willing to work in the hospitals as well as at Hospice House.

Adult volunteers are essential members of our care team. Opportunities for adult volunteers include:

  • Working in clinical departments
  • Delivering mail and magazines to patient rooms
  • Serving customers in the gift shop
  • Working in administrative areas
  • Providing support to patients and families

Hospice House volunteers are needed to serve patients and families in several roles. Opportunities may include:

  • Working at the front desk to welcome visitors, answer phones or do light clerical work
  • Serving as a house assistant to provide light cooking and cleaning services in the kitchen and common areas
  • Providing spiritual and pastoral services (pastoral education or experience is necessary)
  • Offering in-home companionship and caregiver relief (must be at least 21 years of age)

Student volunteer opportunities include:

  • Summer Student Ambassador program at Olathe Hospital
  • Year-round at Hospice House (must be at least 16 years of age)

How to volunteer

To become a volunteer, we require:

We provide flexible volunteer opportunities to meet your personal scheduling needs, but please know we value the opportunity to count you as our teammate. We ask our volunteers to commit to a minimum of 4 hours a week for at least 6 months. Our student summer volunteers are asked to commit to 4 hours of service a week during the months of June and July.

Volunteers often find the greatest rewards are the people they meet and the friendships they forge.
