Adult Hospice Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer visiting patient

Our hospice volunteers are part of an amazing team and make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. Volunteers frequently say they get back tenfold what they give. Hospice volunteer opportunities are rewarding, match your skills and interests, and are flexible to meet your scheduling needs.

Hospice volunteer roles may include:

  • In-home companions provide support to patients in their homes. This role may include reading to patients, providing companionship or sitting quietly while they rest. No personal care is required.
  • Bedside assistants provide support in patient rooms at Hospice House. Volunteers in this role may shadow nurses or provide companionship to patients who are alone or tend to wander.
  • Spiritual care volunteers assess patient and family spiritual needs and provide visits for spiritual support. Visits may be in patient homes or at Hospice House. Pastoral education or experience is necessary.
  • House assistants provide support in common areas such as stocking snacks, baking cookies, tidying the kitchen, answering the phone, guiding visitors and supporting families.
  • Office, delivery and special project volunteer opportunities may also be available.

How to volunteer

To become a volunteer, we require:

  • A completed volunteer application
  • Blood test to check for TB and immunity against childhood diseases
  • Flu shot
  • Orientation and training
  • Personal interview
  • Successfully completed background check

We ask our volunteers to commit to 1 year of volunteer service. Day, evening and weekend shifts are available. Volunteer couples are welcome.
