Rural Health – Miami County Medical Center

Miami County Medical Center (MCMC) is an elective, one-month learning experience. This learning experience occurs at a 21-bed rural hospital in Paola, KS. The hospital is part of Olathe Health.

The focus of the experience will be on the depth of collaboration and communication with patients and other health care providers that is the cornerstone of the MCMC pharmacy. The small number of patients and staff provide for a high level of pharmaceutical care impact on the continuity of care in this rural hospital and community as patients move through multiple transitions of care.

Areas of in-depth experience and learning expectations shall include:

  1. Communication and collaboration within the pharmaceutical care process
  2. Understanding of the rural pharmacist role simultaneously functioning in clinical, administrative and dispensing responsibilities
  3. Medication use process
