Understanding Your Bill

Why did I get more than one bill?

If you visited Olathe Medical Center or Miami County Medical Center, or a department of one of the hospitals, you may receive more than one bill. You would receive a bill for the hospital services, and you may also receive separate bills from physicians who were involved in your care, including emergency, anesthesiology, pathology and radiology.

What if I can't pay my bill?

If you are not able to pay your bill in full, please contact one of our Patient Accounting offices listed below to talk through your options. You may qualify for Financial Assistance, or you may be eligible to make extended payment arrangements via our CarePayment program (for hospital bill payments only).

For more information on Financial Assistance click here.

CarePayment (for hospital bill payments only) is a healthcare financing company that offers our hospital patients affordable financing options if they need help paying their medical bills over time. It is not a collection agency or a credit card company, and there is no interest.

  • If you do not have insurance, you will be asked to pay a down payment for scheduled services. You should contact Patient Financial Services for an estimate at the phone number on your statement or FOR HOSPITAL BILLS at (913) 324-8520 and FOR CLINIC BILLS at (913)-782-3798. Additionally, you may be eligible for an uninsured adjustment.

  • You will receive an initial statement letting you know we have billed your insurance. The statement indicates there is nothing due by you; however, if the insurance information is incorrect, please contact Patient Financial Services at the phone number on your statement or FOR HOSPITAL BILLS at (913) 324-8520 and FOR CLINIC BILLS at (913) 782-3798. When your insurance pays us, you will receive a bill indicating if there is still a balance left that you owe.
  • To find out what your insurance will cover, you can call the customer service number on your insurance card. Ask them if OMC, MCMC or the doctors office where you are seeking care is in your insurance network coverage. Then, ask if the procedure or test you are having is a covered benefit. It would be helpful if you have the CPT code and diagnosis, or reason for the service. You should be able to obtain this from your physician’s office that ordered the procedure or test. It is important to ask if your service requires prior-authorization to be in place before your procedure or test. You can also find out how much you might owe out of pocket. Services are often only considered covered by the insurance company when the diagnosis is considered medically necessary under your policy.

  • In addition to the hospital bill, you may receive separate bills from physicians who have been involved in your care, including emergency, anesthesiology, pathology and radiology. If you have questions about these bills, please contact those offices directly at the number provided on the statement you received from them.
  • Call the physician's office that ordered your test or procedure, and ask them for the CPT code(s) of what you are having done. Contact your insurance company to find out what benefits coverage you have based on the CPT code. Then, contact Patient Financial Services at (913) 324-8520 for an estimate.

  • If you are not able to pay your bill in full, please contact one of our Patient Accounting offices listed above on this page to talk through your options. You might qualify for Financial Assistance, or you may be eligible to make extended payment arrangements via our CarePayment program (for hospital bill payments only).
