Christopher Bagby, MD, an orthopedic and sports medicine specialist, has joined Johnson County Orthopedics & Sports Medicine – Paola and is accepting new patients! Dr. Bagby treats everything from sports injuries to chronic joint pain.
“I decided to become a doctor because I was an athlete growing up, and I gained a passion for the human body and medicine through my involvement in sports, “Dr. Bagby said. “I learned firsthand what it’s like to be a patient when I sustained a femur fracture that required surgery. The orthopedic surgeon who took care of me became my mentor and was a huge driving force toward my interest in medicine, specifically orthopedic surgery.”
Dr. Bagby received his medical education at the University of Missouri – Kansas City. He completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Missouri – Columbia, and obtained his fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at The Christ Hospital, University of Cincinnati. Dr. Bagby is board certified in orthopedic surgery.
His scope of practice includes carpal/cubital tunnel release, trigger finger release, fractures, tennis/golfers elbow, rotator cuff/labral repair, biceps/triceps repair, ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, patellar instability, patellar/quad tendon repair, total knee replacement and ankle ligament reconstruction.
“My philosophy on patient care is that the patient’s best interests always come first,” Dr. Bagby said. “I am a firm believer in exhausting all non-operative treatment options prior to recommending surgery. I treat all patients as if they were my family member.”
Patient visits with Dr. Bagby are a team effort. He identifies the problem, discusses the various treatment options and comes to a joint decision with the patient about the best way to proceed in treating that problem.
“The most rewarding part of my job is when I see patients who had injuries or ailments return back to the lifestyles they were previously accustomed to,” Dr. Bagby said.
