Olathe Medical Center Opens New Cardiac Rehab Facility, Launching First Pritikin ICR™ Program in KC Metro

Olathe Medical Center opened a 4,500-square-foot facility to house its new Intensive Cardiac Rehab (ICR) center. Powered by the Pritikin ICR™ program, Kansas City metro patients now have access to a cardiac rehab program focused on safe, effective exercise, balanced eating, and mental health.

“With decades’ experience providing high-quality cardiovascular services, 30+ of which include cardiac rehab, we understand the importance of complete cardiac care,” Michele Hobby, BSN, RN, CCRP, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab manager at Olathe Medical Center, said. “Olathe Medical Center’s ICR program is a natural progression of our extensive cardiovascular services.”

While traditional cardiac rehab is exercise-centric, this ICR program consists of 36 additional sessions comprised of nutrition- and wellness-focused education. Additionally, ICR patients will have access to a walking track, gym, and full demonstration kitchen.

“Healthy lifestyle changes can prevent 80% of all heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes,” Hobby said. “Because the Pritikin ICR program emphasizes a healthy lifestyle, participants can greatly reduce their risk of another heart event and related hospitalization.”

Pritikin ICR is one of only two ICR programs approved by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) currently available for license to hospitals and healthcare providers. Most commercial insurers cover ICR, but individual plan coverage should be verified. A physician referral is required.
