Olathe Medical Center Earns National Recognition for Quality Heart Failure and Stroke Care

Olathe Medical Center earned its first-ever Get With The Guidelines® – Heart Failure Silver Plus quality achievement award with Target: Type 2 Diabetes℠ Honor Roll from the American Heart Association, complementing its ongoing recognition for Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus award with Target: Stroke℠ Honor Roll Elite and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll.

Focused on improving patient outcomes in critical areas of care, these Get With The Guidelines awards reflect OMC’s continued commitment to providing quality care and outcomes.

Heart Failure

2023 marks the first year OMC earned the Get With The Guidelines – Heart Failure Silver Plus award with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. Silver Plus recognition is awarded to hospitals that meet rigorous treatment goals while demonstrating an additional level of quality for one calendar year. Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll recognizes silver or higher-level hospitals that achieve an Overall Diabetes Cardiovascular Initiative Composite Score of ≥ 75%.

“By 2030 over 8 million U.S. adults are expected to be living with heart failure, a condition currently without a cure,” Dusan A. Stanojevic, MD, an interventional cardiologist at Olathe Health Cardiology Services, said. “Approaching epidemic proportions, we understand the importance of partnering with the American Heart Association to adhere to research- and evidence-based guidelines. Our participation in this Get With The Guidelines® program is just one example of our commitment to caring for patients with heart failure.”

Reduced hospital readmissions and an increase in healthy days at home are key measures of success. These improvements can help patients better manage this chronic condition and improve their quality of life.

Stroke

For the sixth consecutive year, OMC received Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus recognition. OMC also maintained its Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll status since the award debuted in 2020. Reserved for hospitals that adhere to the latest scientific treatment and meet rigorous treatment goals while demonstrating an additional level of quality for two or more calendar years, Gold Plus is the highest level of recognition for organizations participating in this program. Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll recognizes Silver or higher-level hospitals that achieve an Overall Diabetes Cardiovascular Initiative Composite Score of ≥ 80%.

Also certified by The Joint Commission, in collaboration with the American Heart Association, as a Primary Stroke Center, OMC continues to demonstrate exceptional efforts that foster better outcomes for stroke patients.
