The rotation will provide an organized and directed learning experience in the administrative and managerial responsibilities of the director of pharmacy, pharmacy managers and residency program director.
The roles of pharmacists in leadership/management are varied. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to strategic planning, budgeting, recruitment, personnel, communication, accountability and delegation. Priorities change, week-to-week, day-to-day and even hour-to-hour. The rotation will give the resident an opportunity for first-hand experience of life as a leader and manager. In addition, the resident will spend time with analysts from Information Technology to learn about the relationship between the electronic medical record and the medication use process. The length of time spent in various activities and with each preceptor will be customized to the resident’s preferences, interests and goals.
