At Olathe Health, we make sure stroke patients receive high-quality care, as soon as possible.

The minute a stroke patient enters our hospital, we have a specialized team that is called together to assess the patient and determine what interventions are needed.

Acting Quickly is Crucial

Our highly trained stroke team includes a neurologist, critical care nurse, emergency room nurse and emergency room physician. A clot-busting drug called tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) may reduce long-term disability for the most common type of stroke, if the drug is given within three hours of the start of symptoms. So, by bringing the stroke team together quickly, they can immediately start the process of determining if the tPA drug is appropriate for the patient.

Award-Winning Stroke Care

Olathe Medical Center has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With the Guidelines® Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus Gold Quality Achievement Award for the three consecutive years. This award is the highest level of recognition from these associations and recognizes our hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence. Olathe Medical Center also received the association’s Target: Stroke™ Honor Roll Elite award. To qualify for this recognition, hospitals must meet quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster medication.
