Understanding Your Bill

Why did I get more than one bill?

If you visited Olathe Medical Center or Miami County Medical Center, or a department of one of the hospitals, you may receive more than one bill. You would receive a bill for the hospital services, and you may also receive separate bills from physicians (outside the Olathe Health System network) who were involved in your care, including emergency, anesthesiology, pathology and radiology. If you have a question about one of these bills, please contact their office directly.

If you are a patient at one of the following hospital departments, please read the applicable billing information: Pain Management Center and Wound Healing Center.

What if I can’t pay my bill?

Health Services Financing® Program Available to Help Patients Pay Expenses

Olathe Health is proud to offer patients a financing program, called Health Services Financing (HSF®), which allows them to pay their out-of-pocket healthcare balances over time with zero annual percentage rate. Patients and families are eligible for HSF® regardless of whether they have insurance, and without requiring a credit check. There are no set-up fees, charges or penalties for early payoffs, and patients can consolidate charges to one account with one monthly payment.

How It Works

Not all patients are able to pay their out-of-pocket expenses in full right away. Participating in the HSF® program through Commerce Bank makes your life easier by allowing you to pay medical bills over time, through monthly payments.

Joining is easy and requires just a few simple steps.

  • Contact Olathe Health’s billing office at (913) 355-8520 to enroll today.
  • Commerce Bank will provide you with a line of credit, consolidated into one monthly payment.
  • You can make single monthly payments online, by phone or by mail, or set up recurring payments.

Pricing

At Olathe Health, we understand the cost of your healthcare is important to you. Below is information to show you our standard hospital pricing for services and items, as well as a Price Estimator Tool to show the negotiated prices with our third party payers. Please note that the actual amount you will pay out of pocket depends upon many factors including your insurance policy. See below for more information. If you have any questions, please call our patient financial services department at 913-324-8520.

To see each of our hospital’s standard charges, discounted cash price, and payer specific charge for services and items, click on one of the links below to download the .CSV file.

Price Estimator Tool

The Price Estimator Tool allows patients to estimate hospital charges for 300 common healthcare services. It includes the current “Procedure Price” and the “Estimated Payor Price.” Estimated Payor Price is the expected charge billed to your insurer, or, if you don’t have health insurance, the cost billed directly to you for the selected services. All prices are estimates and may not represent the final charges billed by the hospital. The actual amount you will pay out-of-pocket will vary, depending on a variety of factors, including your specific insurance plan.

>>> CLICK HERE FOR THE PRICE ESTIMATOR TOOL

The Estimated Payor Price is for hospital fees only (for example: supplies and equipment, room and board, and the use of hospital non-physician resources). Your actual total costs may be higher or lower depending on many factors, including, but not limited to, your and your physician’s treatment choices, actual services rendered, your particular healthcare needs, and the details of your insurance coverage, if any. You may also have separate bills from physicians involved in your care, such as emergency, surgery, anesthesiology, pathology, and radiology.

If you have questions about this pricing tool or your estimate, please call a Financial Counselor at 913-324-8520 or refer to your insurance plan documents for specific coverage details.

Please note:

  • Physician services received at Olathe Medical Center are not provided by the hospital and are billed separately by the rendering physician.
  • Inpatient attending and emergency room attending physician services received at Miami County Medical Center are provided by the hospital and detailed in these files. All other physician services are not provided by the hospital and are billed separately by the rendering physician.
  • The actual price you pay for healthcare services at the hospital depends on the health insurance plan you have. If you have insurance, you and the insurance provider share your healthcare costs. The specifics of your health care plan, like deductible and co-pays, will determine the amount you are responsible to pay for the healthcare services you received. If you do not have insurance, you may be eligible for an uninsured adjustment, and you may qualify for financial assistance. Learn more about our financial assistance policy.
  • To estimate and understand what your out-of-pocket costs will be, we recommend you work with your physician’s office and your insurance company. You will need to get your procedure information, including the CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) code, from your physician’s office before calling the insurance company. If after gathering information from those sources you still need assistance, you can contact our Patient Financial Services department for an estimate at 913-324-8520.

  • If you do not have insurance, you will be asked to pay a down payment for scheduled services. You should contact Patient Financial Services for an estimate at the phone number on your statement or FOR HOSPITAL BILLS at (913) 324-8520 and FOR CLINIC BILLS at 913-355-3798. Additionally, you may be eligible for an uninsured adjustment.

  • You will receive an initial statement letting you know we have billed your insurance. The statement indicates there is nothing due by you; however, if the insurance information is incorrect, please contact Patient Financial Services at the phone number on your statement or FOR HOSPITAL BILLS at (913) 324-8520 and FOR CLINIC BILLS at 913-355-3798. When your insurance pays us, you will receive a bill indicating if there is still a balance left that you owe.
  • To find out what your insurance will cover, you can call the customer service number on your insurance card. Ask them if OMC, MCMC or the doctors office where you are seeking care is in your insurance network coverage. Then, ask if the procedure or test you are having is a covered benefit. It would be helpful if you have the CPT code and diagnosis, or reason for the service. You should be able to obtain this from your physician’s office that ordered the procedure or test. It is important to ask if your service requires prior authorization to be in place before your procedure or test. You can also find out how much you might owe out of pocket. Services are often only considered covered by the insurance company when the diagnosis is considered medically necessary under your policy.

  • In addition to the hospital bill, you may receive separate bills from physicians who have been involved in your care, including emergency, anesthesiology, pathology and radiology. If you have questions about these bills, please contact those offices directly at the number provided on the statement you received from them.
  • Call the physician’s office that ordered your test or procedure, and ask them for the CPT code(s) of what you are having done. Contact your insurance company to find out what benefits coverage you have based on the CPT code. Then, contact Patient Financial Services at (913) 324-8520 for an estimate.
