Olathe Medical Center recently earned national recognition in orthopedic surgery care from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). It ranked among the top 97 hospitals in the country for safety and better recoveries from knee and hip replacement surgery.
For its evaluation, CMS determined how often these patients were readmitted within 30 days of discharge and how often they suffered one of eight complications, including heart attacks, pneumonia or shock within seven days of admission. They also noted if patients experienced bleeding at the site of surgery and complications with implants or infection of the joint or wound within 90 days of admission.
"Recognition on this list is an honor," Michelle Boylan, Vice President/Quality and Risk Management, said. "It is the result of hard work and providing patient-centered care. This affirms that in orthopedics, OMC creates value for our patients and provides safe care."
