The physicians at Olathe Health System have compiled our own “top ten list” of healthy practices. They’re good ideas anytime, and particularly smart for staying healthy in an unhealthy economy.

1. Eliminate stress.

Too much stress in your life can have an effect on your health. Here are some ways to reduce stress and live a happy and healthy lifestyle:

  • Laugh often
  • Spend time with friends
  • Be thankful
  • Find beauty and joy in music, books, works of art, and everyday things
  • Get outdoors and appreciate nature

2. Treat any health problem promptly.

If you’re ill or injured, seek medical attention right away. Postponing treatment could lead to more serious, more expensive, and harder to treat health problems later. If you have health concerns today, call for an appointment. Need help finding a physician? We can help. Search our physician locator to find a primary care physician near you.

3. Keep your personal health maintenance up to date.

Do you know what tests or screenings are recommended for your age and gender? Download our free preventive healthcare guide for adults. If you are overdue for a specific screening, make an appointment at one of our clinics. View the top five critical tests recommended for routine healthcare.

4. Make sure your children’s immunizations are current.

Adult immunizations are important too, like tetanus-diphtheria boosters and specialized inoculations against pneumonia and shingles. You can get routine immunizations easily at our Care Express locations or at any of our family healthcare clinics.

5. Take your medicine.

Don’t cut back on dosage or stop taking prescription medicines unless your doctor advises you to do so. Be sure to review your medications (prescription and nonprescription) regularly with your physician.

6. Take advantage of free screenings and seminars.

Free and low-cost health seminars and health fairs have never made more sense. Watch for these health opportunities in your area. Click here to see what’s coming up.

7. See your dentist regularly.

Healthy gums and teeth are an important part of your overall health picture.

8. Don’t smoke.

If you are already a smoker, we can help you stop. Learn more about our smoking cessation class.

9. Get a good night’s sleep.

Seven hours of sleep every night is recommended. Having difficulty sleeping? Could it be a sleep disorder? Take our easy quiz to find out.

10. Eat smart and exercise regularly.

Start each day with a healthy breakfast. Emphasize vegetables and whole grains in your total diet. Drink no more than one glass of wine or beer per day. We can help with general nutrition or meal planning for special dietary needs.
