Healthcare Career Scholarships

Pursuing a career in the healthcare field?

The Olathe Health System, Inc. (OHSI) Health Career Scholarships were established to provide financial assistance to seniors graduating from the high schools in our service area who choose to pursue a career in the healthcare field. OHSI will award scholarships annually to graduating seniors at each of the area high schools.

Applications:

  • Please deliver three completed applications to the counselors at your school no later than Friday, February 17, 2012.
  • All applications will be reviewed by a scholarship committee from Olathe Health System.

Hays Memorial Scholarship

Medical students who are natives of Johnson County, Miami County, Franklin County or Lynn County and are currently enrolled in an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school are invited to apply for the annual Hays Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by the physicians / medical staff of Olathe Medical Center. The annual scholarship will be presented to one medical student applicant per year, in remembrance of the late Dr. Larry V. Hays, a former Olathe surgeon.

Eligibility Requirements: The Medical Executive Committee will consider medical students who have achieved an outstanding academic and leadership record. Although there are no minimum qualifications, candidates for this scholarship must be actively enrolled in an accredited medical school in order for applications to be considered.

Amount of Scholarship: In addition to special recognition as an exceptional scholar in the community and future medical care provider, one medical student scholarship recipient per year will be awarded a $1,000 stipend in order to assist with educational expenses.

Applications and Selection Process: The Medical Executive Committee will make all final scholarship selections by April 26. The committee will be looking for potential scholars who will make contributions to the medical field and to the community. Financial need, academic performance, scholastic aptitude, evidence of outstanding leadership, extracurricular activities, community involvement, personal statement, and letters of recommendation are among the criteria used in the selection process.

Deadline: Applications must be completed in full and returned to the address below on or before March 15. Only complete application packets, including the application, letters of recommendation and personal statement, will be accepted.

Margaret Deshler Scholarship

Presented by the Ambassadors to the Olathe Medical Center. The Olathe Medical Center Ambassadors have proudly supported healthcare careers through their scholarship program for more than 20 years. 

Background and Purpose: This scholarship was established in 1990 by the Ambassadors to Olathe Medical Center and is awarded annually to an individual who is furthering their career in a health-related occupation. It is in honor of Margaret Deshler, a nurse and supporter who was instrumental in building the hospital in the city of Olathe. Donations, memorials and various fundraising events provide funds for this scholarship.

Eligibility Requirements: Any individual who is currently employed in a health-related occupation and resides or works in the greater Kansas City area.

Amount of Scholarship: $1,000 scholarship will be granted, payable to the school.

Application and Selection Process: All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply for this award. An Ambassador selection committee will review all applications and make a selection based upon the criteria. The winner will be notified no later than April 5.
