Special Recognitions:

Miami County Medical Center received Excellence through Insight recognition recently through HealthStream Research, a national company that tracks patient satisfaction. Miami County Medical Center was one of four hospitals (among 170 of similar size) honored for overall inpatient satisfaction. It was one of three hospitals noted for overall HCHPS rating of patients’ perspectives of hospital care. Additionally, the Medical-Surgical unit was among the top three of 292 hospitals of any size receiving overall patient satisfaction awards.

Top Five Hospitals ranked for heart valve replacement. Olathe Medical Center was recognized in the “Best Healthcare for Your Family” Fall 2003 edition of Money Magazine as one of the top five best hospitals in the Great Plains region for heart valve replacement surgery. The Great Plains region reaches from Texas through North Dakota and includes the central part of the United States.

First in Kansas City Area to Implement Non-surgical Lung Biopsy Technology. Physicians from Consultants in Pulmonary Medicine at Olathe Medical Center have begun using an Endobronchial Ultrasound Scope (EBUS) to perform non-surgical biopsies of the chest when testing for lung cancer. EBUS provides significantly better accuracy and safety compared to previous lung biopsy methods.

First in Kansas City Area to Implement New Bypass Surgery Technology. Clay M. Burnett, M.D. of Kansas Heart & Lung Surgeons at Olathe Medical Center (OMC), is the first cardiothoracic surgeon in the Kansas City Area (and one of the first in the Midwest) to utilize a new technique in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) patients. The C-Port Distal Anastomosis System is a technique that uses an automatic micro stapler to help attach artery and vein bypasses.

Health Access was noted as the second largest Physician Organization in the KC Metro area in the Business Journal.
